Dataflex has been a proud product developer and manufacturer for over 40 years. Virtually all product designs are developed in-house by our own people. That means we have complete control over how products are created, how they are manufactured, how they should work, how long they should at least last and how they can be processed when they are discarded. That's a lot of responsibility, but we wouldn't want it any other way.
It is precisely because we have so much control over these processes that we can confidently say that we stand behind our quality. Durability and repairability are our guiding principles in product development. Our products are developed modularly as much as possible. This makes parts easily interchangeable and replaceable in case of any defects.
Offering a modular range has other advantages besides repairability. The modular construction allows parts from the same range to be added or removed from existing configurations as a DIY system. As a result, the products always remain current, despite changing customer requirements. Besides customer benefits (reduced costs, installation time, less waste), this also benefits the environment, as a product can remain relevant for much longer.
We follow the principles of design for disassembly. During the design and manufacturing process we take into account that products should be easily disassembled at the end of their life cycle and materials can be easily separated for recycling. Gluing different materials together is therefore out of the question. If products can be disassembled easily, they can also be repaired more easily!
In 2016, we banned all Styrofoam from our packaging. Fine methods have now been developed to break down Styrofoam in 2024, but recycling it is costly because the material is too cheap and lightweight. We now use paper wrappers made of soft tissue paper instead of plastic bags to avoid damage. Another advantage is that after installation, the entire packaging can be disposed of with the waste paper.
Much of our range can now be delivered in bulk. Here, the same parts are packed together in boxes of, say, eight pieces, instead of a set of different parts in one box. This allows the packaging of these parts to be designed much more efficiently and smaller. Less volume means less transport, so fewer emissions and lower costs. In addition, installation time is significantly reduced, as installation can be done much faster and more efficiently on a component-by-component basis.
"We always strive to choose the most environmentally friendly solutions, from switching from Styrofoam to paper filling, reusing as many boxes as possible to using 80% recycled pallet packaging. Sometimes it takes more effort, but we are committed because we know we are working for a company that takes responsibility for the environment."
